Single Paragraph Essay
American Wasteland
According to Lars Eighner, a known dumpster diver and the author of, “On Dumpster Diving,” states that we as a country are wasteful. Lars often visited college campuses because in America he feels that they are the most wasteful. He states that, “students throw everything out when they move at the end of a semester, before breaks and after breaks.”(256) Lars also goes on to discuss that students don't really know or care what foods are good and bad mainly because, “it's Daddy’s money.”(257) So of the things Lars found around college campuses were; “half jar of peanut butter, yogurt, cheese, sour cream, drugs, pornography, and spirits.”(257) College students have lots to hide and not much knowledge on what foods are good over bad which leads to lots a waste. In conclusion Americans are wasteful but college students the most wasteful partially because they just left home and have no knowledge of food and new habits they have to hide from their parents which leads to departure of recreational objects. Lars later states, “I am sorry for them.” 178 Words
